I’m sure all of you would agree that those of us who sew our own clothes love little more than the satisfaction of adding little personal details and touches make our things truly individual. One particularly cool way of doing this is by using custom clothing labels! I’d seen other sewists add these to their makes before and been intrigued – they’re such a sweet touch which make the garment seem both more polished and professional and more unique. I’d been considering getting some of my own made for a while but not found anything that particularly caught my eye, when Abby from the Dutch Label Shop contacted me about trying their products. It seemed the perfect opportunity, so I was only to happy to take up the offer!
The process of designing and creating the labels was extremely simple on Dutch Label Shop website – simply select the styles that suit, choose your fonts and colours and you’re basically done! There are plenty of customisation options – including the ability to use your own logo (as Sofia at Silver Lining Atelier did!) – but if you want to go the easy route and just select from the options already available, you’ll not find yourself short of choice. I chose the text “Made by Maddy” with one of the many little free symbols available, a little retro sewing machine icon, 100 in green and cream and 100 in black and white.
Once you’ve made your selections, simply add to cart and order! Soon enough your very own custom labels will arrive in the mail, ready for you to attach with either stitches or heat. This was the only hiccup in my experience – after weeks with no word or labels, I contacted the company and they confirmed they had been sent – but it seemed they got lost in the mail! They readily agreed to resend them however and shortly after that I received them. I am definitely prepared to give Dutch Label Shop the benefit of the doubt here however – when I did get my labels, there was a note inside saying the package had been opened by Australian Customs! I can only imagine this was because the package originated in the Netherlands; something to be aware of for fellow Aussies I guess :p
I’m so impressed by the quality of the labels! They’re all absolutely perfect, with smooth finished edges, the design woven clearly and exactly as I selected it. I chose sew on labels, and as you’d imagine they were perfectly easy to attach with a few small discreet stitches. I’ve already added them to several of my existing makes, and can’t wait to attach them to new garments as I go! I feel like they really lift the look of the inside of the garment to a new level, and certainly provide me with a great deal of secret satisfaction, even if no one else sees them (that being said, they sure make for a great Instagram!) 😉 . They can also serve a very practical purpose too – in some clothes the front is basically indistinguishable from the back, and adding a label gives you a very quick way to tell, and greatly reduces the risk of ending up with your clothes on back-to-front! 😛
All in all, if you’re in the market for some custom clothing labels, I could not recommend Dutch Label Shop more highly! Also, if you’re someone who sells clothes for sale, they can also do size/care labels and custom tags 🙂

Disclaimer – I was provided with $100 store credit at Dutch Label Shop to try their products; however they did not request that I write a blog post in return, and all opinions are my own 🙂
