Summer Sewing & Sewcialising

Hey there friends! I know it’s been a little while, but I’m very pleased to announce, I AM DONE WITH EXAMS (for the year, and provided I didn’t fail, haha). As incredible this year has been, I am glad things are finally wrapping up and that I’ve now got some time to relax, rejuvenate and, most importantly, get stitching!

Even thoughย the exam period has provided me with a bit of a forced break from sewing and blogging, I haven’t been able to stay away from the community *entirely*. I’ve been getting my fix from other social media outlets: you can now follow me on Twitter (handle is @missmaddysews!), and I’ve been having a lot of fun participating in the Bimble and Pimble Sewvember on Instagram (now @missmaddysews too!). Most excitingly, I’ve been getting around the new online sewing community at The Fold Line! If you haven’t checked it out yet, it’s a very promising new site that combines some of my favourite elements of Pattern Review, Kollabora and sewing groups on Facebook, with a very slick interface and a rapidly growing community on board with it already. So check it out, and if you like what you find add me as a friend (bc I’m very lonely on there ;_;). I’ve also started a group on there specifically for lingerie sewing and discussion so check that out too ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve managed to squeeze in a little bit of making too! As I said last week, sewing is my stress relief so it was good to have a little project planned to quickly bust out in some down time: a new pair of Grace panties!

Forest Grace Panties

Much the same as previous incarnations, although keen readers will notice a new design feature: the lace across the top of the front and back. I really wanted in corporate the lace, but it was too narrow for the side panels, and the rayon(?) I was using for the front lacked the stretch required for the MIX30 panties. So some creativity was required! As always, the fit is lovely and they are super comfy to wear.

You may well be a little suss at this point – since when do I make a pair of underwear on its own and not to match anything? The answer is sinceย never, and that hasn’t changed – there is a gorgeous little bra that I am justย dying to share but I have been doing some top secret pattern testing and alas, I am not yet at liberty to share it with you. But soon enough I hope ๐Ÿ™‚

So now that it’s summer (just about) I can finally get around to the million things I’ve been dying to sew for months. All the things I promised friends and family way back; new bathers, the fabric for which has been calling to me; and a few bits and pieces for clinical wear next year (I’m so excited, for both hospitals and me-made outfits!). Potentially most exciting, I have a family wedding coming up in late December, and I’ve decided to sew something new for it! I’ve settled on By Hand London‘s stunning Anna dress; I’m going to do a trial run in the midi length and then, all going well, the maxi length with the split for the event. I’m planning on splurging on the fabric too, and I can’t wait to actually let myself get my hands on some of the gorgeous fabrics I see about instead of just drooling over them (or pinning them extensively).

Finally, in more exciting sewcial news, later today I’m heading along to the meet-up with Sarai and Kenn from Colette patterns! It should be great fun, and I can’t wait to meet some fellow Melbourne sewists too ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, given the numerous stitching-related plans I’ve set for myself, I’m sure it won’t be long at all before you hear from me again!

Until next time,

Miss Maddy xx
